There are many community groups that benefit from our church members' participation such as those below. Check out the SRVUMC Missions Site to get involved in the local community. Your generous support of all these endeavors is greatly appreciated. Some of the groups SRVUMC has supported includes:
Bay Area Crisis Nursery, Concord, and Stand! For Families Free from Violence
A new name to reflect the merger of Stand! with the Family Crisis Center in July, 2010. Also located in Concord, this new agency will provide a stronger voice and a more cost-effective program for referred families in Con-tra Costa County around issues of family violence. .
Habitat for Humanity Local Projects
Together with four other Methodist churches in the Tri-Valley area, our church will join Habitat for Humanity of the East Bay to rehabilitate two homes in Livermore, beginning January 8, 2011. Habitat for Humanity East Bay has been building in Alameda and Contra Costa counties since 1988. To date, it has completed over 252 homeownership opportunities for low-income families. As a “green” builder, Habitat East Bay builds sustainable homes to care for the environment, Habitat homeowners, and volunteers by integrating environmentally preferable materials, energy efficiency, water conservation, and durability into the design of the buildings. Your contribution will support this local project and Habitat. To volunteer your time, contact Steve Elliott at 925.362.8697 or SAE612@msn.com
The Bay Area Alliance for Youth and Family Services (BAAYFS),Inc.
THE BAY AREA ALLIANCE FOR YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES (BAAYFS} is a 501(C)(3) non-profit Public Benefit Agency founded in January, 2002, to provide quality educational, residential and support services for adolescent girls who are removed from their family homes due to abuse and neglect. Its mission is to provide a caring and supportive community that endeavors to instill in each girl who comes through its doors a sense of meaning, significance, purpose and vision. Patrick Davis founded this program and serves as its executive director. For many years we have supported this organization and will continue to do so. If you’d like to get involved, go to their Website at baayfs@sbcglobal.net.
Here are some ways you can help:
• Share your professional life one-on-one with a girl.
• Tutor or mentor one or more of our girls.
• Get involved in the fall fund-raising auction by helping secure items, pre-event work, on site help at the
auction, etc.
