6/19-26/2010 Amor
Ministries/ Youth Mexico Mission trip
Our annual Mexico trip is always a great experience, for
our young Mission group and our host
families. Grades 10 through 13 are welcomed to sign up. We will travel to San Diego where we spend out first night before entering
Mexico
the following day. We will have tent camping and meals catered by a group
called Camping Pro. We are again reaching out to families in Rosarito Beach. This year, we are scheduled to build
a “double” house for a Mexican family chosen by the Amor Ministries group.
The work is hard and the hours are long but what a great way to spend a week
of your summer. We will need at least 30 people on this trip to build the
house. You must have a current passport to participate! There’s plenty
of space on this trip. Last year our group had over 35 youth and adults
attend…let’s shoot for 40 this year and really make a difference in the
community.
Total
cost: Approx
$710.00 Non-refundable
deposit: $200.00
7/25-31/2010 Middle School in Mission/ Gleanings for the Hungry
2008 incoming 6-8th
graders are invited on this Mission
experience. This trip will take us to Sultana, California
near Fresno.
Growers from the valley donate fruit that will be sent to third world
countries. The youth will work in the Peach dehydration plant
processing (halving, pitting, sulfating, sun drying and packaging) peaches
for the worlds hungry. We did this last year and by all accounts, it was a
successful, spiritual and rewarding event. It is a great feeling to know that
you, our youth, are making a difference in thousands of families lives!
We can accommodate 25
people. Junior counselors 9th-13th grades are needed
and welcomed.
Total cost: Approx
$175.00 Non-refundable
deposit: $85.00/ ongoing
7/11-18/10 Sierra
Service Project (SSP)
This trip has
registered full
We have traditionally sent
our whole Confirmation class on this mission event every summer. This year we
are encouraging all 2009 incoming 9th graders, the “new”
confirmands”, to be a part of the SSP experience. We will be returning to the
Northern California area. Our site
will be either Round Valley or Loleta,
California- Both Indian
Reservations. Last year, we built wheel chair ramps, fixed broken stairways,
put a new roof on a home and structurally reinforced the second floor of a
damaged home for the local Indian tribe inhabitants.
Total cost: Approx
$400.00 Non-refundable
deposit: $100.00
Katrina Update
12/27/09- 1/3/10 Katrina Relief/ Youth UMVIM trip - New Orleans, LA
This was our fourth and
final trip to this area. Two days after Christmas, 18 youth and 3 adult
volunteers flew from SFO to New
Orleans. Over the course of 6 days the youth
installed insulation and dry walled (including tape and mud) an entire home,
from the baseboards to the ceiling, for a needy family. The work was hot,
physically demanding and non-stop. Our youth performed brilliantly as was
evidenced by the smiles on our host family and our youth. We wish the good
folks of Naw ‘Lens well in the years to come.
So there
you have it! It’s going to be an exciting youth mission year for us once
again. Please remember, to make these trips a reality, we will be
having lots of fund-raising activities.
Partial
scholarships are always available (and confidential). Please ask Michael Stephenson about these. As a scholarship
prerequisite, all youth must participate in fund-raising activities. As an
added incentive, the Youth Committee will match up to $100.00 of raised
funds. The youth budget is limited but if there is a financial need, our
Church Community is happy to help.
To secure a
spot on the Amor (Mexico) Mission,
please give your registration
form and $200 deposit to Michael
Stephenson by April
11, 2010.
God Bless
you and our youth,
Michael (or
Miguel ~ my summer mission trip name)
