Ron’s passion for ministry is rooted in the conviction that it is the purpose of the Church to invite people into an ever deepening relationship with God through Jesus Christ even as it equips and trains these same people to use their God given gifts in service to a broken world. To that end, Ron preaches and teaches a faith that links the head (intellect / theology) with the heart (emotion / feeling) and with the hands (service to others). He believes that a faith that is vital and healthy is a faith in which all three of these ingredients are woven together.
The theologian Paul Tillich insists that Christian theology must serve the needs of the church. Central to these needs, according to him, is conveying the truth of the Christian message with such sensitivity to given situations that it gracefully comes alive again and again. Inspired by the apostle Paul, I believe that the gifts of the spirit do not rest in any office and certainly not on any one person. Therefore, I have come to realize that one of my tasks as pastor is to assist others in discerning the ways in which they are gifted by the Spirit to be blessings for others. At no point in my ministry have I ever considered my congregation, or the United Methodist denomination, exclusively as the church that my Christian theology serves. In the words of John Wesley I see the world as my parish.
Dawn is married to Rev. Patrick Davis, founder and Executive Director of the Bay Area Alliance for Youth & Family Services, a youth home ministry to homeless youth. They share their home and lives with Golden Retriever Jackson and Tigger cat.
(925-837-5243 x 108) Michael, who is our Youth Director, grew up in Santa Monica, California and moved to Reno with his wife, Sharon, in 1980 where they began their family. He had worked in the entertainment field as a singer for several years and ultimately re-entered school where he completed a BS in Biology and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. He practiced Chiropractic and taught science courses at the local community college in Reno for several years. Michael began his journey in youth ministry in 2000 in Reno while his daughters were still in youth group. Since that time he has worked with the Reno school district’s after school programs and the YMCA in Hong Kong as their camping manager. Michael is the father of three daughters and has five grandchildren. Bruce Koliha (925-837-5243 x 110), our Music Director, is responsible for the music program at SRVUMC for adults, children and youth. Interestingly, Bruce has come back to SRVUMC after a 17-year sabbatical. (If the Eagles can call it a 14-year vacation, we can call it a sabbatical.) Bruce joined the staff of SRVUMC as Chancel Choir Director in 1990 and was with us for 3 years. Known to many in our congregation from those days, Bruce is also known for his influence in our community from 26 years as the choral music director at Monte Vista High School here in Danville. The award-winning choral music program Bruce developed at Monte Vista has been “home” for many youth from SRVUMC, both past and present. In Spring 08, Bruce and his choirs received state awards. Bruce’s joy and enthusiasm for music and its “power to move the spirit” is infectious and obvious for all to see and experience. Just ask any member of the Chancel Choir. Then ask Bruce how you might participate in this wonderful musical experience.
