Mission Saturday

DON'T STOP NOW - KEEP HELPING

Did you “Take it to the Streets” on Saturday, October 1st?

This is a perfect opportunity for members of the church, church groups, family and friends to continue to volunteer their time in the Tri-Valley area.  Our hope is that October 1, the “day of service” will become a “way of service” that leads to an ever deepening commitment to serve others.

The Juvenile Hall Auxiliary began in 1955, by a group of people with the express goal of brightening the lives of those residents of the newly constructed Juvenile Hall.  Their motto is "The Community Cares" and their belief is that by raising the self esteem of troubled juveniles, they will realize their self worth and hopefully become productive members of society.
The Hall Closet opened it's doors in 1960, with the initial goal of providing curtains and tablecloths to make Juvenile Hall more homelike as well as buying books and games to meet the recreational needs of the residents.
Today, the Hall Closet is located on the Juvenile Hall Grounds, operating out of the original Juvenile Hall's administrative wing. The Hall Closet is operated by the Juvenile Hall Auxiliary and provides birthday and Christmas gifts to the residents of the facilities and well as assisting minors and dependents that are under the county Probation and Social Service Departments.

MedShare – San Leandro   http://www.medshare.org/MedShare Offices Sorting Boxes
MedShare volunteers typically work to organize, sort and package medical supplies to be sent to hospitals and clinics that serve the poor throughout the world. Without the efforts of our volunteers, many of these usable supplies would be discarded because of production overages, procedural excess and regulatory requirements. Our volunteers truly make a difference by helping us keep these supplies out of landfills and putting them in the hands of those caring for the poor.
Our volunteer sorting sessions are three hours long, and happen in the sorting room of our San Leandro facility. No special knowledge or skills are necessary to volunteer. We’ll train you at the beginning of the session.
The sorting is not pSorting Boxes at Medsharehysically strenuous, but we do spend much of the session on our feet. Anyone under age 18 is required to have a completed Parent Permission Form.
Please wear comfortable clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty. The warehouse where they will be working has no heating or air conditioning so we always recommend that volunteers dress for the outside temperature. Closed-toe shoes are required. No sandals or high heels please!
